Qualified Designation of origin Rioja
CM Prestigio is a very distinctive red wine with a great and unique personality. It is powerful, mineral, mature, complex and very well-balanced regarding colour, aroma and taste.
Its Tempranillo grapes are grown in 4 goblet-trained vineyards in fresh, chalky soils in the heart of the Álava's Rioja region, in Labastida. These vineyards are named Acueducto, Altazaba, Cuba Negra and Larrazuri. They are 30 to 80 years old and are located at the foot of Mount Toloño, at 650 metres above sea level. As a result, they are quite exposed to the fresh northerly winds so characteristic of this area, which filter through the mountains providing moisture in the northern area and crossing our vineyards, giving them freshness, but avoiding freezing. They are very low-production vineyards, which grow small-sized and highly concentrated grapes, providing the wine with power and minerality.
At these vineyards, a special pruning is carried out on a bud with a maximum production potential of 4,000 kg per hectare. Besides, the grapes are hand-harvested at their point of maturity in crates weighing less than 10 kg. Once in the winery, which is very close by, and after being cooled in cold stores, the grapes undergo a double selection process (cluster and grape). Their alcoholic fermentation takes place in small tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in wooden tanks.
The wine then stands for 16 months in French (80%) and American (20%) oak barrels from the best national and international coopers, procuring a slow assembly of primary and tertiary aromas that provide maturity and structure to the wine.
Once this maturation comes to an end, CM Prestigio ages in the bottle, where it refines until achieving the prestige after which it is named.
The wine
In the visual phase, this wine's colour is dark cherry red with violet nuances.
On the nose, it displays aromas of ripe berries, such as blackberries and plums. Graphite minerals come to the fore, with spicy, very complex aromas evolving.
It is a wine of great structure and volume on the palate. Fresh, balanced, very complex and elegant. Blackberry and sloe berry flavours. It is an exceptional wine, impressively strong and delicate, as well as with an excellent laying-down capacity.
